Chief Dave Newlan and Dr. Adkins, Lee County School Superintendent, talked about the written threats that have been happening in schools throughout Lee County. The school district launched an informational campaign called “Fake Threats, Real Consequences” and local law enforcement is doing its part. Our Cape Coral School Resource Officers educate and mentor, but their primary job is first and foremost law enforcement. It is now incumbent on parents to have serious talks with their kids about making fake threats. It’s too late once the cuffs go on.
An arrest for a written threat to conduct a mass shooting is a 2nd degree felony and will have lasting effects.
